Fraunhofer IWS: DRYtraec to become technology platform for dry battery electrode coating technology

The DRYtraec coating process developed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS (Dresden, Germany) allows the dry production of battery electrodes without toxic organic solvents or water. In particular, the space- and energy-intensive drying step of conventional wet-chemical coating processes is completely eliminated. In addition to environmental protection aspects, there is enormous potential for cost reduction in the battery cell production. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is now funding a project with €3.7M that will develop the dry-coating technology into a holistic technology platform.

EcoVadis upgrades Canatu’s sustainability rating from Silver to Gold

Canatu (Vantaa, Finland) has achieved the Gold Medal for Corporate Social Responsibility performance by EcoVadis. This result places Canatu among the top 5 percent of companies assessed worldwide by EcoVadis. The new assessment results came up to be 10 points higher than in 2021 – improving the rating from silver to gold.

VP of Bundestag visits SCHOTT: exchange on climate protection and economic importance

Vice president of the German Bundestag Katrin Göring-Eckardt and Dr Heiko Knopf, vice chairman of B90/The Green Party and member of the Jena City Council, spoke with SCHOTT management and employees in Jena, Germany, about the company's ambitious climate goals. Three years ago, the specialty glass manufacturer was the first in its industry to set the goal of becoming climate neutral by 2030. As a foundation company, SCHOTT is taking responsibility for the environment: Its scientists, engineers, and other employees are developing ways to operate the energy-intensive aggregates used to melt glass with green electricity and hydro as opposed to gas. Several of these development projects are also sponsored by the German government.
