TNO at Holst Centre and ZSW announce Li-ion battery collaboration

TNO at Holst Centre, The Netherlands, and Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung (ZSW), Germany, will collaborate on the development of next-generation Li-ion batteries for the European car industry. In the collaboration Holst Centre’s expertise in Thin Film Technology processes and equipment will be combined with ZSW’s know-how of battery materials and integration. Each institution will involve its local partners from the battery (manufacturing) value chain and the automotive industry. The Dutch province of Noord-Brabant and the German state of Baden-Württemberg are providing funding of around €3.4M for this cross-border research.

Japan Display enters strategic alliance with display maker HKC

On 7 April, Japan Display Inc. (JDI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with HKC Corporation Limited (HKC), the global No.3 display maker, to create a strategic alliance. As global strategic partners, JDI and HKC will work together on next-generation OLED technology and fabs, a Global Innovation and Industrialization Center, and a high-end automotive display business.

High-efficiency electrodes with ultralight fabric-based current collectors for li-ion batteries

Lithium-ion batteries (LIB) are indispensable key components for electro mobility and the success of the energy transition. They offer high energy density and high cycle stability. Eight partners from industry and science are developing technologies and components in the funded project "revoLect" (funding reference: 03ETE041) in order to be able to produce resource-saving and more efficient LIBs. The project is pursuing two key innovations: the replacement of the usual metal foils with a metallized fabric structure and the use of silicon as anode material.

EU project SUNREY: sustainable and efficient perovskite solar cells with reduced lead content

Making perovskite solar cells more sustainable, efficient and durable – these are the goals pursued by 13 European partners in the project SUNREY. The project aims to further push the development of highly-efficient solar cells based on non-critical raw materials and to strengthen the innovation potential of the European industry. SUNREY is funded by the European Union’s research and innovation programme Horizon Europe within the framework of the Green Deal Initiative with €4.25 Million. The three-year project started on 1 November 2022, and is coordinated by the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP in Potsdam, Germany.
