PragmatIC at LOPEC: Electronics reinvented for trillions of things

In the last few years several brands have experimented with NFC enabled smart packaging, but these trials have primarily been in low volume marketing campaigns. A significant reduction in cost is required to progress to high volume, mass market roll out.

New developments in flexible electronics are now leading to a drastic decrease in the cost of the key components required for NFC enabled smart packaging.  PragmatIC (Cambridge, UK) is at the forefront of this change, reinventing flexible electronics for mass market applications by delivering ultra-low cost flexible integrated circuits at a fraction of the cost of traditional silicon ICs.  PragmatIC FlexICs are thinner than a human hair and can easily be embedded into everyday objects, enabling the potential for trillions of smart objects that can engage with consumers and their environments. PragmatIC’s FlexLogIC system is a low capital, compact, self-contained and automated ‘fab-in-a-box’ for fast, cost-effective and scalable distributed production of FlexICs. PragmatIC is opening up opportunities to introduce intelligence and interactivity into a wide range of common items such as consumer goods, games and pharmaceuticals.

At LOPEC 2018, Gillian Ewers, VP marketing at PragmatIC, will be chairing the Smart and Hybrid Systems session of the conference on 15 March.

This will include several thought-provoking presentations. Keenan Thompson, global innovation director - packaging structure, materials and design - at Anheuser-Busch InBev, will present ‘Bringing new technology platforms to life in a Corporate environment.’ Professor Antti Keränen, CTO at TactoTek, will present ‘Merging form and function with injection molded structural electronics’. Douglas Hackler, president and CEO at American Semiconductor, Inc. will present ‘Complex flexible hybrid electronics today’. Dr. João Gomes, COO at CeNTI - Centre of Nanotechnology and Smart Materials - will present ‘Integrated inductive charger for automotive central console’.

Moreover, Scott White, CEO at PragmatIC,  will be giving a presentation on 'Electronics reinvented for trillions of things' on 14 March during the IoT session at 3.40pm.
