OLED production using wet coating

The Japanese companies Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Pioneer Corporation recently announced the successful development of organic light emitting diode (OLED) elements using a wet coating process. Both companies have agreed to set up a testing facility with the aim to reach mass production.

While most OLED panels are currently produced using vapor deposition the two Japanese companies believe that wet coating will lead to cheaper mass production of panels with large surface areas and uniform light-emitting surfaces that contain few imperfections.

The testing facility will be set up at Pioneer’s Yonezawa Plant and be able to produce prototype OLED lighting panels on G1 glass substrates of 40 x 30 cm.
