SUPERSMART – paper-based printed electronics as environmentally friendly and cost-efficient alternative

The SUPERSMART research project funded by EIT RawMaterials has shown proof: printed electronic components such as sensors and smart labels on paper can play an essential role in building a smart environment for production, retail and logistics. Efficient and reliable production processes make them economically competitive. In terms of resource conservation, climate and the environment, electronics printed on paper have outstanding advantages over conventional substrates and manufacturing processes for smart electronic components. The SUPERSMART project team is proud to have been selected by the international jury as the winner of the 2021 OE-A competition within the category "Best Publicly Funded Project Demonstrator". The award ceremony took place on 15 April 2021.

Kyocera licenses TactoTek’s IMSE technology

TactoTek (Oulu, Finland), developer and licenser of injection moulded structural electronics (“IMSE”) technology, and Kyocera Corporation, a leading global developer and manufacturer of industrial and automotive components, semiconductor packages, electronic devices, smart energy systems, multi-function printers, and mobile phones, have announced a licensing agreement for TactoTek’s IMSE technology. Kyocera will design, develop and produce IMSE parts in Japan.

SolarWindow sets new record, doubling Its power conversion efficiency

(New York City, New York), developer of transparent liquid coatings and processes for generating electricity on glass and plastics recently announced that it has more than doubled its prior certified performance, also achieving the highest independently-certified power conversion efficiency of previous organic photovoltaic devices fabricated at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado through a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA).

Continental pools expertise for functional printing under one roof in Freiburg

At the Freiburg, Germany, location, technology company Continental is pooling its expertise in functional printing in a Technology Center with state-of-the-art machinery. At the heart of this is a printing machine specially developed for functional printing. It enables the use of numerous printing processes and can process a wide range of materials – from artificial leather to metal, from paper to rubber. So far the company has invested around €2.5M in its location in the German state of Baden-Württemberg.

New board of directors announced by the OE-A

The members of the OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Association) confirmed Stan Farnsworth, NovaCentrix, as the chair of the board of directors for the term 2021 to 2025. Dr Xiaolin Yan, Guangdong JUHUA Printing and Dr Alain Schumacher, IEE, are confirmed as vice-chair Asia and vice-chair Europe, respectively. Dr Chloé Bois, ICI, is elected as vice-chair North America.
