VARTA Microbattery/VARTA Storage to focus on research projects at LOPEC 2018

VARTA Microbattery and VARTA Storage will be exhibiting at this year's LOPEC trade fair on 14 and 15 March 2018 in Munich. The group of companies will showcase content, goals and current status of the research projects Print Energy, BASMATI and INNPAPER and their cooperation with the companies Elmeric and FM screen printing for the production of temperature loggers. In addition, VARTA experts will present the CoinPower series, a rechargeable microbattery, and its battery pack for applications in wearables.

“This year, our appearance at LOPEC will be under the sign of research cooperation. Printed electronics is constantly evolving and printed battery technology will be used in many application areas in the future. Innovation leaps make it possible," says Herbert Schein, CEO of VARTA AG.

VARTA Microbattery participates in numerous collaborative research projects with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Commission. The battery company is researching printed batteries with different electrochemical systems from various manufacturers and is a partner for universities and science in terms of battery competence and battery innovations.

VARTA Microbattery will be presenting the projects PrintEnergy, INNPAPER and "Bringing Innovation by Scaling up nanomaterials and inks for printing "(BASMATI) at LOPEC. The research project INNPAPER aims to develop electronic platforms based on multifunctional paper. The aim is the development of temperature sensors, doping tests and applications for disease detection. BASMATI is involved in the development of active nanomaterials and electrochemical inks for printing technologies. The Print Energy project is all about rechargeable zinc-air batteries as a purely printed technology. The components are to be developed and designed in such a way that they can be printed like a newspaper or a catalogue.

In addition to the projects, the VARTA group of companies will also be presenting temperature loggers. They are produced by Elmeric and FM Siebdruck using VARTA products. The temperature loggers are characterised by a flat and flexible design and the features ensure temperature monitoring of various products such as food, pharmaceutical products or chemicals.
