Heliatek welcomes EU-Commissioner Oettinger and Dr Rößler, the president of the Saxon parliament

The President of the Saxon parliament, Dr Matthias Rößler, received the EU Commissioner for budget and personnel, Günther H. Oettinger in Dresden. Together they visited Heliatek and got a view of the production facility. Dr Martin Pfeiffer, one of the Founders, and Dr Ralph Wichtendahl, vice Ppresident operations, shared the latest information on technical and sales developments of the company.

Heliatek is the world's leading manufacturer of organic solar films. The flexible HeliaFilm is less than 1mm thin and is used on light-weight structures and roofs or on building façades, where the use of standard solar panels is not an option.

Heliatek is morphing from technology developer to industrial manufacturer with the support of the State of Saxony and the EU. The company is upscaling production to an industrial manufacturing tool of HeliaFilm over the next two years. At this time, the world's first roll-to-roll vacuum production facility for OPV – allowing for a limited capacity – is already in operation at the Dresden location.

With its upscaling, Heliatek is a perfect example of the link between research and production of high-tech innovations in Saxony. Among other numerous awards in recent years, the World Economic Forum named Heliatek as the only German company to be a “Technology Pioneer” in 2015. In 2016, the company was awarded the GreenTec Award for its innovative vacuum roll-to-roll production process.

The visit of the EU Commissioner Oettinger has taken place as a part of events surrounding Europe Week, from 5 to 14 May 2017. Each year on the 9th of May, which is Europe Day, events are organised by regional governments. These call for dialogues on the subject of Europe as a whole.
